In The Spotlight: Lauren From Blame It On Barney’s

The other day I was browsing my Instagram and noticed a few photos pop up in my feed from an account called @blameitonbarneys. I instantly loved her style and decided to follow her, and eventually reached out to Lauren to do an interview to learn more about her. Check it out here!

What made you start your website?

I have had some sort of a blog or fashion inspiration website for many years and then finally I got the courage up to start one that featured my personal style. It was a huge step for me because I didn’t always like to have my face out there or share that much about my personal life. However, I constantly found myself motivated by other bloggers who were doing it and I really felt that it was the natural next step for me.

Now looking back I wish I would have started it years ago- but better late than never! My best friend and I have always said we should take photos of our outfits everyday so that when we are older or in a few years when styles change we can look back to see what we were wearing- so this is sort of a more creative way to be able to do that while sharing with others at the same time!

Where do you get your fashion inspiration?

I think that most of my fashion inspiration comes from fellow bloggers, street style looks from fashion weeks around the globe (especially paris fashion week), as well as runway shows. I think it is fun to try to create my own version of something I may have seen on the runways. Also, I have a little vintage love in me so I often am inspired by styles from the 60’s, 70’s as well as many different decades.

How would you describe your style?

I think my style is a mix of classic, trendy & vintage. Ha. That sounds like it is all over the place and maybe it is. I really do like to combine classic elements with vintage pieces and I am usually not too afraid to try out new trends as long as they fit into my personal style.

How do you choose jewelry for an outfit?

Jewelry is one of my favorite parts about an outfit. I love wearing black ripped skinnies, a nice metallic oxford, a black turtleneck and then some awesome rings, earrings, and bracelets. I tend to go for gold just because I love the way it looks against black which I wear a lot of. I just have fun with it when picking out jewelry for my outfits, I don’t like to match too much so I might throw on a green stoned cuff with a black and white striped dress.

What’s your proudest moment so far running your website?

I think my proudest moment is just realizing I am really doing this and sticking to it. As I mentioned above I was always a little hesitant about putting myself out there. And now to be able to be doing it without hesitation is a great feeling.

What advice would you give yourself if you had to start over again?

Always plan a little more than you think you should. Also, connecting with fellow bloggers is key to growing. I have found such great support from other fashion bloggers & stylist. Also, don’t be afraid to be yourself because that is the only thing that makes your page different than anyone else’s!

In your view, what’s the biggest challenge in the fashion blogging space right now?

There are just SO many fashion bloggers, which can be great sometimes but also it can be hard to get noticed! You might have amazing style but not everyone is going to see it so it can be a struggle to get yourself known!

Dog or cat?

Well…I love dogs. I have 2 dogs. But I also love cats. I think I am more of a dog-person but more of a cat at heart if that makes sense!
